Robert Warren Sr. Cline

Robert Warren Cline Sr., 82, of Williamsport, passed away Monday, July 25, 2011, at his home.
Born June 8, 1929, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Elmer Tracey and Ella (Wilhide) Cline.
After graduation from high school in 1946, Robert hitchhiked across the country. He then went on to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in 1950 from the University of Maryland.
He was the owner and operator of the Hagerstown International Harvester Dealership, E.T. Cline and Son, formerly known as Fearnow and Cline, until 1992.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
A lifelong tennis player, he captained his high school team, taught over the years, helped organize tennis leagues and helped run local USA tennis and senior tennis leagues.
He was a member of the Disciples of Christ, Downsville Christian Church, Hagerstown. He also was a longtime member of the Hagerstown Alsatia Club; a donor to the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts; a volunteer and supporter of the Washington County Rural Heritage Musuem; a supporter of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Preservation Association; and a longtime supporter of agricultural and farmland preservation, He was active in Scouting and a member of the American Legion Post 202 of Williamsport.
He is survived by three sons, Robert W. Cline II of Hagerstown, Lawrence T. Cline of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Douglas H. Cline of Hagerstown; one brother, Ronald Cline of Williamsport, and 11 grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Grace (Mercereau) Cline; one son, Craig Emerson Cline; and his partner of 15 years, Sue Ann Sullivan.
Memorial services will be Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011, at 5 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Craig Jones officiating.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
