Roger Paul Varner
Roger Paul Varner, 77, of Hagerstown, passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Broadmore Assisted Living.
Born June 27, 1936 in Johnstown, PA., he was the son of the late George William and Alice Vivian (Rogers) Varner.
Roger was a veteran of the United States Army for nine years.
He retired after 30 years as a welder for Mack Truck.
He enjoyed working on cars, hunting and fishing.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Margaret Ann (Young) Varner; his son, Billy Varner; his granddaughter, Becky Varner; and his brother, Billy Varner.
Surviving him is a daughter, Susan Mummert and husband "Whitey" of Hedgesville; two sons, Roger Varner, Jr. and friend Cheryl, Travis Varner both of Hagerstown; three grandchildren, Allison Scully and husband Marshall, Jesse Varner, Jason Varner and wife Erin; 8 great-grandchildren; and a special family member, "Tootie" Gilliland.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00am on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown with the Rev. Mark C. Mooney officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery with military honors.
Friends will be received from 7-9pm on Friday at the funeral home.
