Ronald Eugene Blair

Ronald Eugene Blair, 63, of Hagerstown, marched into heaven Thursday, June 7, 2012, with his loving wife by his side.

Born Aug. 6, 1948, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Ralph F. and Jane J. (Rock) Blair, and stepson of Clifford Rock.

Ronald was a North Hagerstown High School graduate. After school, he joined the U.S. Army in 1966. During his long and exemplary career as a management sergeant 1st Class and master administrative specialist, Ronald served 21 years in many challenging assignments in the United States and overseas. He served as a senior personnel management supervisor in Germany, Belgium and Vietnam. He was especially proud of his many Army decorations, including: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (2), NCO Professional Development Ribbon (3), Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Joint Chief of Staff Identification Badge, Expert Badge Rifle M14 and M16, and two Overseas Bars.

He also attended the University of Maryland during his military service. He retired from the Army in 1987 stating: "I'm leaving behind one of the greatest loves of my life â?? being a soldier in the service of my country."

After retiring, Ronald became an avid fan of the sport of kings (horse racing) and spent most of his weekends with his son, Travis, playing the races. He enjoyed time with his family, friends and beloved pet rabbit, Tater.

He was a member of American Legion Post 42 in Hagerstown.

Ronald is survived by his loving wife, Lisa M. Blair; three children, Kimberly J. Eaton, Randy E. Blair and Ryan E. Blair; two stepchildren, Travis R. Knode and Bradley W. Harbaugh; one brother, Dennis W. Blair; five grandchildren; and one niece, Kris Martin.

Ronald will always be remembered and loved so much by his wife, Lisa, children and brother (Ta'sen'ski).

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, Md., with Major Robert Lyle officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery, with military honors being accorded by the Maryland State Honor Guard.

Friends will be received Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
