Ronald Frank Hovis, 80, of Hagerstown, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born September 16, 1934 in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Franklin “Kite” and Pauline (Fouke) Hovis.
He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving his country from 1953-1957.
Ron was an active member of Salem Masonic Lodge #196 AF&AM in Smithsburg serving many years as the Secretary, a former Member of Isaac Walton League, where he served as past president and received the Big Ike award and Bowman of the Year. North River Hunting Club in Rio, West Virginia. He also was a member of First Christian Church, Hagerstown.
Ron retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Doris Mae (Kline) Hovis; daughter, Nancy Girio; son James B. Hovis and wife, Kelly; grandchildren Carly Shockey, Catrina Shockey, Holly Hovis, and Hunter Hovis; and sister, Gail Colliflower.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters Francis Miller and Mary Jeane Potts.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, March 27, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown with Rev. John Schildt officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday from 7-9 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, the deceased requests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Avenue, Hagerstown, MD 21742.
