Ronald Paul Johnston

Ronald Paul Johnston, 81, of Hagerstown, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at MedStar Washington Hospital Center.

Born on May 16, 1942, in Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Guy Clifford and Capitola Elizabeth Johnston. He was married to the late Rose Marie Johnston for 55 years.

Ronald graduated from Greencastle Antrim High School, class of 1960. Upon receiving his honorable discharge from the Army in 1966, Ronald went on to work for over 40 years at Mack Truck (now Volvo Powertrain) where he developed many close friends that would span decades. He always remained a loyal member of the American Legion and enjoyed attending union meetings and sharing meals with his fellow retirees.

Ronald was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was always quick to help care for and assist any family member in need. Along with his late wife Rose, Ronald enjoyed traveling to the Caribbean islands and taking cruises to various destinations.

. He was also a devout sports fan, with his favorite teams being the Baltimore Orioles and Maryland Terrapins. He enjoyed outings with his family and spending time at the family beach house in Bethany Beach, Delaware.

Ronald is survived by his son, Ryan Johnston; daughter-in-law, Linda Johnston; grandson, Garrett Johnston; brother, Guy Johnston; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Frank William “Bill” Johnston.

Friends are invited to Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Avenue, Hagerstown, MD, beginning at 9:00 am on Friday, October 6, 2023. The family will be present beginning at 12:00 noon. A graveside service will be held at 2:30pm with military honors.
