Ruth Naomi Shingler

February 1, 1929 — June 24, 2018

Ruth Naomi Shingler, 89
1929 - 2018
In the mid-evening hours of Sunday, June 24, angels arrived at the home of Ruth Naomi Shingler to escort her to her home in Heaven, forever to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She is now reunited with Ivan, her husband of 68 years as well as her sons, Ivan "Brad" Shingler, and Michael Lynn Shingler.

Ruth was born February 1, 1929 in Loyalton, PA to the late Charles and Dorothy (Hassinger) Keiter.
In addition to her parents, husband and sons, Ruth was preceded by her mother-in-law, Florence Parsons, granddaughter, Dawn Marie Shingler, son-in-law, Roy Spooner, sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Ed Deneceviz and most recently, her dear brother, Charles Keiter, whom she lovingly referred to as "Chick".

Not only was Ruth a busy mom of six children, she also worked for more than 20 years as a banquet waitress at The Venice Inn. She also enjoyed being employed as a nurses aide at The Washington County Hospital and later in life, in the deli section of Martins.

Ruth enjoyed sewing, putting out large gardens, canning, picking out the runts of the litter to fatten up for butchering as well as being involved with all her childrens activities. She thoroughly enjoyed being the President of the Washington Street School Band Boosters for her children in the band and was determined "to get those kids new uniforms", which she did. She supported the South High Band Boosters right along with her son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter as well. She attended many FFA activities with her oldest son and youngest daughter and made sure all her kids got to the skating rink, bowling alleys, golf courses, and sporting events.

Ruth, herself, enjoyed bowling and bowled for the Womens League at Southside Bowl and the Coca-Cola Mixed League.

Ruth, along with her husband, were members of Calvary Grace Brethren Church in Hagerstown and served lovingly in many capacities. She treasured each and every member or visitor and was a prayer warrior on behalf of any and all she came in contact with.

In their later years, Ruth and Ivan only traveled out to church, the grocery store and loved going to Walmart. They looked forward to striking up conversations with the greeters and strangers alike. Ruth was always concerned for the well-being of others and never hesitated to ask if there was anything she could pray for on their behalf. She then asked if she could give them a reminder that she was praying for them in the form of a small slip of paper that read, "If we meet and you forget me, you have lost nothing; but if you meet Jesus Christ and forget Him you have lost everything."
Ruth not only loved well but was well- loved by all those she knew.

She is survived by her children that were so proud to call her "Mother", daughters, Bonnie Spooner of Williamsport and Vickie (Gerald) Brunner of Hagerstown; and her sons, Christopher (Kathy) Shingler and Anthony (Darla) Shingler, both of Hagerstown; as well as daughters-in-law, Kim and Karen Shingler of Hagerstown, Tammy Jo Shingler of Greencastle, PA., and a loving and dear friend who was like a daughter to her, Patricia Brierley of Hagerstown.

Those that lovingly called her Nana are Allen (Cindy) Moody of Guyton, GA., Angel (Darren) McClintock of Ingalls, IN., Brad Aaron (Sabrina Kelley) of Greencastle, PA., Brandi Lee (Shari) Pine of Mercersburg, PA., Grady (Kendra) Shingler of Greencastle, PA., Jeb Shingler (Dori Nance) of Tucson, AZ., as well as Amber (Justin Smith) Shingler, Ashley (Todd) Lady, and Brandon and Gary Shirley, Britney (Justin Iseminger), Colton (Kodi Ebersole), Elayne (Kelley) Seiler and Pam (Jose) Molina, all of Hagerstown. Great-grandchildren, Joshua (Elisa) Moody, Jessica Moody Coe, Colby Shingler, Seth Lady, Daniel, Elizabeth, and Mariam RuthAnne McClintock, Ryan Seiler, Tristan Shingler, and Addie and Novalee Iseminger. Great-great-granddaughter, Lydia Coe. Also, nieces and nephews, Ed (Sue) Denecevicz, Kim (Denny) Hart, Tam (Phil) Humbert, and Wendy (Steve) Rundle, as well as great-nieces and nephews.

Special thanks go to her Hospice caregivers who tenderly and lovingly cared for her: nurse, Rhonda, CNA, B.B., social worker, Rick and chaplain, Jeff, along with the many staff members who gave her after-hours care.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 28th, from 11am-1pm at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, followed by services, burial and reception immediately following. Pastor Jay Fretz will officiate.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742 or Calvary Grace Brethren Church, 115 Bryan Place, Hagerstown, MD 21740.
