Sally Ruth Hatch, 82, of Hagerstown, Md, passed away Wed., March 21, 2018, at Waynesboro Hospital, Waynesboro,Pa.
Born in Grand Rapids, MI on April 16, 1935, she was a daughter of the late Evangeline (Boerma) and George Meyer.
Sally graduated from Ottawa Hills High School, class of 1953. She continued her education by receiving her Bachelor's from Western Michigan University in 1957 and later her Master's in elementary education from University of Maryland in 1962.
She was a member of Emmanuel Chapel in Smithsburg, MD.
A lifelong teacher, she held several teaching positions through out her career, including teaching at University of Chicago Laboratory School, public schools from the late 1950's to 1960's, and tutoring children along the way, most recently here in Hagerstown.
Sally loved to volunteer and worked with and for veterans. She was involved with Women in Military Service For America Memorial, the Korean War Veterans Memorial Advisory Board, Guns into Plowshares, D.C. Metropolitan Police Dept., and was very active in the D.C. and Northern Va. community. She was a founder and secretary for the Antietam Creek Watershed Alliace (ACWA).
Sally is survived by her husband of 14 years, Robert Hatch; two daughters, Nancy (Byington) Rhodes (Mark) and Barbra Ann Byington; two grandsons, Matthew Rhodes and William Rhodes; sister, Judith Lousie Meyer M.D.; and brother Lawrence George Meyer (Linda).
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, March 26, 2018 at Emmanuel Chapel, 21815 Auburn Dr. Smithsburg MD., with Pastor Jonathan Laye officiating. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery.
Visitation will be an hour prior at the church.
