Samuel Ashby Mayes

Samuel Ashby Mayes II, 65, of Greencastle, Pa., and formerly of Hedgesville, W.Va., passed away Friday, Feb. 19, 2016, at Manor Care in Chambersburg, Pa.

Born Sept. 25, 1950, he was the son of the late Charles Mayes Sr. and Mabel (Shaffer) Mayes.

Mr. Mayes had worked as a welder with Pangborn Corp. in Hagerstown.
He is survived by two daughters, Angela Mayes of Waynesboro, Pa., and Christina M. Mayes and fiancé, Julius, of Greencastle; one brother, Charles R. Mayes Jr. and wife, Glenda, of Hagerstown; one sister, Bessie “Betsy” Niswander and husband, William, of Hedgesville; and five grandchildren, Kiley, Ayanah, Daijah, Ariana and Julius Jr.

A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2016, at 7 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown with the Rev. Mark C. Mooney officiating.

Friends will be received at the funeral home Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m.
