Sylvia Ann Harshman Ridenour, 81, of Hagerstown, MD passed peacefully from this life to be with the Lord on Thursday,April 9, 2020 at her daughter’s home surrounded by her loving family.
Born on March 22, 1939, she is survived by and was the loving wife of David E. Ridenour for 58 years. She was preceded in death by her parents D. Clarence and Pauline Elizabeth (Stone) Harshman.
She is also survived by two daughters, Kimberly Ann Ridenour and LoriBeth Ridenour Martin (Kenlin) both of Hagerstown. One granddaughter, Mackenzie Kimberly Grace Ridenour. Brother, David C. Harshman (Regina) of Myersville; Brother-in-law A. Wells Ridenour (Karen); Sister-in-law Dottie Ann DiPoli (Maurice). Nieces and nephews: Stephanie (David), Alison (Jerzy), Ann Marie, Michael (Eileen), Davey, Dana (Adam) and many great nieces and nephews.
She graduated from the Class of 57’ SHHS, where she was selected as Dairy Princess. She continued her education at Lenoir-Rhyne and received her BSN from University of MD. Her 45yr nursing career began at Sykesville Psychiatric State Hospital, followed by Western Maryland State Hospital and culminating at Washington County Health Department, where she was the TB expert. Her nursing colleagues have remained her lifelong friends.
Her marriage and faith brought her to Zion Reformed UCC for the last 58 years, where she was very active in Christian Education from Sunday school curriculum, mummer parade to the Easter Cross. Though quiet and behind-the-scene, she was a guiding force. The beach was her sanctuary, but she loved gardening, reunions and spending time with family and lifelong friends.
Due to current circumstances, private graveside services will be conducted in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown with Rev. Katie Penick officiating. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date.
