Tanna Louise Litton

Tanna Louise (Burger) Litton, went home to be with the Lord on November 9, 2023, in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Born January 24, 1943, in Hagerstown, MD.  Married her high school sweetheart (Vernon) right out of high school at 18 years old, married 62 years until her passing. Married in Hagerstown, MD, moved immediately to College Park, MD in 1961, then retired to North Myrtle Beach, SC in 1996. She was a born again Christian and lived her life daily showing His Love by putting others first starting with Vernon and her 2 boys. She was a selfless servant to all she came in contact with, praying and encouraging each to do their best.  She instilled value of hard work in her boys through her daily example.  She did it all; great wife, mom, homemaker, and business executive all at same time.  There was nothing she wouldn’t do for her boys. working to afford private Christian school & then college for them.

She loved to travel.  Honeymoon at Niagara Falls, then while raising a family, that was in form of camping - starting with trips to Daytona Beach FL & Disneyworld; but soon Lakeland Campground in Myrtle Beach and Cherrystone Campground on Eastern Shore of Virginia became our annual summer adventure. Once the kids graduated school, and retirement began, she enjoyed over 20 cruises through Caribbean with Vernon; and family trips to her dream destinations of Alaska (2011-50th wedding anniversary); Europe (2014) and Hawaii (2021-60th wedding anniversary).

Tanna worked briefly at S.S. Kresge department store in Hagerstown, MD during high school (where she would slowly buy items for a future house she would get with Vernon once married), then right after graduating high school, was married and moved to College Park, MD where Vernon got a job and housing at University Of Maryland milking cows before leaving there to work and retire from Bell Atlantic now Verizon; while she worked for 37 years at Craftsman’s Press in Bladensburg, MD rising to level of Vice President.  She enjoyed travel, racquetball, reading novels, and her daily crossword puzzles. And she loved to shop!  She found joy in buying presents for everyone, any small holiday and way too much for Christmas.  I think she was #1 VIP shopper at Belk department store. It was a given you’d receive 10+ items each from Belk every Christmas.

In addition to her husband of 62 years, Vernon Lee Litton in North Myrtle Beach, SC, she is survived by her sons: Kirk Steven Litton (daughter in law, Katie) of Columbia, SC with grandchildren Madison-Mackenzie-Mason; Justin Wayne Litton (daughter in law, Monica) of Waco, TX with granddaughter Violet. In addition, she is survived by sister Rebecca “Jean” Jean (Burger) Casale; brother Chester “Tink” Luther Burger.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, November 17, 2023, at 11am at Rest Haven Cemetery, 1601 Pennsylvania Avenue, Hagerstown, Maryland, 21742. Reverend William C. Seiple will officiate.
