Thomas Taylor Sr. Luther

Luther Thomas "Tater" Taylor Sr., 79, of Hagerstown, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born June 17, 1931, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Carl V. and Leona (Thomas) Taylor.

He was a veteran of the National Guard.

He retired as a freight receiver at Wetterau Inc. in Williamsport, Md.

Luther was a member of the NRA, FO Eagles Aries No. 694 of Hagerstown and Sons of the American Legion Morris Frock Post No. 42; a charter member of the MD Sheriffs Institute; an associate member of the FOP Thomas Pangborn Lodge No. 88; and a former member of the Western Enterprise Fire Co. and the Lincolneers.

He was a Civil War buff and enjoyed NASCAR racing. His favorite drivers were Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Jr. Luther was also a fan of the Washington Redskins and the Baltimore Orioles.

He is survived by his loving wife, Regina M. (Knouse) Taylor; a daughter, Debra L. Myers and husband, Stuart, of Greencastle, Pa.; two sons, Leonard T. Taylor and wife, Dawn, of Bloomsburg, Pa., and Luther T. Taylor Jr. of Hagerstown; and two granddaughters, Meghan Taylor and Chelsea Taylor, both of Beaufort, S.C.

In addition to his parents, Luther was preceded in death by a sister, Carella Semler; and three brothers, Samuel C. Taylor, Allen Taylor and J.D. Taylor Sr.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 8, 2010, at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Mark C. Mooney officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Friends will be received one hour before the service at the funeral home.
