Velma Lee â??Bibâ? Knode, a resident at Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro, Md., passed away Thursday, April 19, 2012.
Born May 14, 1922, in Romney, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Donaldson and Bessie (A
rnold) McDonald.
She was employed by the Wharf Restaurant as a cook for more than 35 years, and had a loyal following of downtown shoppers and workers. She was known for all her homemade soups and home cooking.
She was a member of the VFW in Hagerstown and the Moose, Eagles and American Legion (Funkstown) for many years.
You could often see her and her husband, Ace, dancing the night away and having a good time with there friends and family at the VFW.
She is survived by one daughter, Julia â??Judyâ? Shank and husband, Morris â??Tinkerâ?; niece, Peggy Haggerty-Clark, and nephew, Bruce Haggerty of Martinsburg, W.Va.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis â??Aceâ? Knode; one son, Donald Lee Bowman; two sisters, Leona Oats and Elsie Haggerty; and one brother, Melvin McDonald.
A memorial service will be held at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, on Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at 4 p.m. with Pastor Dean Pryor officiating. Family will receive friends at the chapel following the service.
