Vernabell E. Cooper

Vernabell Elizabeth (Rowland) Cooper, 86, of Hagerstown, passed away on Monday, December 19, 2016 at Fahrney-Keedy Home & Village.

Born February 12, 1930 in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late John David and Catherine (Easton) Rowland.

Vernabell worked as a homemaker and previously for C&P Telephone Co.

She was a member St. Mary's Catholic Church, as well as the AmVets; Lion's Club; American Legion; and Elk's Club. Vernabell enjoyed regular Friday night card game parties with dear friends and frequent trips to Atlantic City. She had a strong affection for cats, and made sure they never went hungry.

Vernabell is survived by her children, Curtis Lee Cooper (Sherry), Jeffery Lynn Cooper (Patti), Cheryle Ann Cooper all of Hagerstown; 7 grandchildren, Amy Robinson (Chris) of Hagerstown, Brian Cooper of North Carolina, Richard H. Cooper III of Martinsburg, Caitlin Cooper of Falling Waters, Chrissy Ashbrook (Mark) of Falling Waters, Timothy A. Humphries of Hagerstown, and Zachary Humphries (Andrea Latour); seven great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Stryker, Corey Robinson, Richard H. Cooper IV, Evelyn Cooper, Joseph Reid, Lucy Ashbrook and Noah Ashbrook.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 68 years, Richard "Dick" H. Cooper, who died Oct. 18, 2016; a son, Richard Harold Cooper Jr.; and two sisters, Mary E. Dillworth and Margaret K. Heiberger.

A funeral service celebrating both Richard and Vernabell's lives will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, Dec. 23, 2016 at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 PA. Ave., Hagerstown. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Washington County, c/o Doey's House, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
