Virginia Ginny Messersmith Strine, 88
Virginia Ginny Messersmith Strine, age 88, of Hagerstown, MD passed away Friday, January 16,2015 at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown.
Born May 4, 1926, she was the youngest daughter of the late James Weaver and Carrie Shaw Messersmith, and sister of Mary L. Bear, Luella E. Washabaugh, Joshua R. Messersmith, Howard E. Messersmith, and James F. Messersmith. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 year, Judge James F. Strine.
Virginia graduated from North Hagerstown High in 1944 and organized every class reunion since this last year when she had failing health. Virginia attended the University of Maryland where she became a member of Tri-Delta Sorority and also took many classes at the Hagerstown Community College. She was the first hostess at the Hager House in 1948; started a Girls Scout Brownie Troup at Fountaindale Elementary School in 1961 and assisted with the Girls Scout Troup in 1965; was one of 5 founding members of the Hagerstown Jaycettes in 1955-56; President of North High PTA and member and officer of Area Advisory Council 1968-71; Active member of the Woodland Garden club from 1953 to 1973 and was the first President; initiated and served as the first Coordinator of Fountainhead Country Club Junior Golf for young girls and boys from 1968-1976; served as a volunteer for the Washington County Food Bank and Co-Chairman 1978-1984. Virginia was active at John Wesley United Methodist Church and taught first grade Sunday School but rejoined her family church of St. Marks Luther Church of Hagerstown later in life.
Virginia touched so many people lives through her positive attitude, she always had a smile on her face and a spring in her step.
Virginia is survived by her loving two daughters; Linda H. Strine of Redondo Beach, CA, and Nancy S. Strine and her husband Jack Lantzy, of Shepherdstown, WV. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who were near and dear to her.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 24th at St. Marks Lutheran Church, at 1:00pm with the Reverend G. Stanley Steele officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday evening, January 23rd from :5:30pm to 7:30pm at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel.
