Walter Daniel Washington, Jr.

June 10, 1940 — August 7, 2020

Walter Daniel Washington Jr., 80, of Hagerstown, passed away Friday, August 7, 2020, peacefully, at his home surrounded by loving friends and family.

Born on June 10, 1940 in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Walter Daniel Washington, Sr. and Alberta Susan (Knight) Caulk.

Walter served in the U.S. Army.

Walter retired in 2005 from the Washington County Board of Education after 18 years of honorable service as the Head Custodian. Prior to the Board of Education, he worked at SAKS Brothers for 9 years, Roadway for 11 years and Preston for 7 years. He was also a member of Ebenezer AME Church in Hagerstown.

Walt spent his life loving his family and always ensuring they were taken care of.  His grands and great grandchildren lovingly called him "granddaddy." Walt was known and respected throughout the community and called Mr. Walt and/or "Little Walt."  Walt had the special ability for making people laugh and making them always feel at home.  He enjoyed going to various horse racing tracks, drag racing, dancing (especially to the 50s and 60s oldies), was an avid Redskins fan, and was the "go-to" person when it came to working on cars or sending people to the best place to get them repaired.

The community has truly lost a friend, a gentleman, and most importantly an awesome example of a husband, father, family man, and friend.

He is survived by his loving wife, Brenda (Allen) Washington, his 6 children; Richard Washington, Wendy Hailey, Linda Gordon and husband Loderick, DeWitt (Buster) Howard, IV, Tonja Dickerson and her husband Dr. Kenneth Dickerson, and Brian Howard, Sr., 7 Brothers; Charles Washington, James Washington, William Knight (Jackie), Kevin Washington (Konona), David Washington, Carlos Caulk(Jeannette), and Tyrone Caulk, 14 Grandchildren; Davis Washington, Kayla Hailey, Dominique Weedon, Sr., Monique Broadus, Tonique Bonner, Lodrique Gordon, Lynique Gordon, Latya Disney, Robyn Terry, Ryann Everhart, Rayla Everhart, Brian Howard, Jr., Daniel Howard, Brianna Howard, and 15 Great-Grandchildren; Dominique Weedon, Jr., Kailese Weedon, Delicia Weedon, Kenyon Weedon,Kamron Weedon, Malasia Weedon, Milani Terry, Maliah Terry, Paislee Latisaw, Ziro Gordon, Armoni Powell, Kaveon Dorm, Lakym Allen, Mizaya Broadus and Nessiah Broadus.

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her. Ephesians 5:25. Walt embodied that verse for his beautiful bride, Brenda.
