Wilbur Eugene Bright

July 18, 1936 — February 13, 2022

Wilbur Eugene Bright, 85, of Hagerstown, Maryland passed away February 13, 2022, at the Veterans Administration Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Wilbur was born July 18, 1936, in Etchison, Maryland, the son of late Edith and Charles Bright. He was the third sibling of seven. He attended Montgomery County Public schools during his youth, and joined the United States Army on April 26, 1956, and received an Honorable Discharge as Private First Class. On April 11, 1961, he married Shirley Lyles Bright, and from that union they had eight children. Prior to their union Wilbur had his oldest son, Wilbur Eugene Carroll.
He was known by many as Boise Bright, a true icon to family and friends. For several years he was a long-haul truck driver, and drove for Armstrong Oil Company before becoming employed with Landscape Enterprise where he was employed for over 30 years.
As an adult he joined Goshen United Methodist Church and was a member of the men’s choir for several years.
Boise was loved by many and had nothing but love for others. He was a proud father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and husband who cherished every moment with his family. He loved to have conversation and always kept you laughing. He looked forward to his Friday night card games and his Saturday outings visiting with family and friends. His greatest inspiration was listening to his
Sunday morning gospel music and was a true Redskin fan.
Dancing wasn’t his forte but he loved his oldies but goodies. His only wish was that his family love one another and be happy.
He is survived by 5 children: Wilbur Carroll (Tish); Charles (Ann), Margaret, Annette (Elmore), and Nancy; 1 sister: Laura Herbert; 1 brother: James Bright; 1 sister-in-law: Doris Nettles; 25 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; 8 nieces and 6 nephews.
He is further survived by a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife: Shirley Lyles Bright, 4 children: Sylvester, Wilbur and Wilma (twins), and Nathaniel (Tink) Bright; 3 sisters: Grace Roberts, Lily Miles and Edith Powell: 1 brother-in-law, Sam Nettles; 2 nieces, Towanda Powell and Bertha Bright; 4 nephews: James Bright, Jr., Freddy Herbert, Jr., Robert Powell, Jr., and Sam Nettles, Jr.; 1 granddaughter: Stephanie Bright, 1 grandson: Charles Genies; 1 great grandson: Carter Sanders.
