Willa Jean (Murray) Vaters, of Hagerstown, passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at her home.
Born March 28 in Pectonville, Maryland, she was one of triplets to the late Theodore Roosevelt Murray, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth (Hill) Murray.
Willa attended Clearspring High School before going to nursing school.
She worked as a nurse before becoming the administrator of the former Clearview Nursing Home.
Willa was a former member of Calvary Temple Church in Williamsport.
She enjoyed studying the bible, reading and writing poetry. Willa was an animal lover who gave to many charities to help animals. She was a philanthropist to the plight of starving children overseas.
She is survived by her son, Michael D. Vaters, Sr. and wife Denise M. Vaters of Hagerstown; two brothers, Theodore "Ted" Murray, Jr. and wife Lucille Murray of Fairplay, Wayson "H" Murray, Sr. and wife Elenora "Tootie" Murray of Hagerstown; two sisters, Kathleen Delazio, Sandi Shingleton both of Hagerstown; a grandson, Michael D. Vaters, II; two step grandchildren, Donald G. Beaver, III, David W. Rhinecker; a niece, Robin Brooks and husband Stephen Brooks, their children, Joshua and Zachary; a nephew, Wayson A. Murray, Jr. and wife Renee Murray; and many other nieces, nephews, and extended family.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a sister, Roselyne Elizabeth Murray - Phillips; two brother-in-laws, Fred Delazio and Rob Shingleton; and a nephew, Tyler Murray.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00pm on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 in Parkhead Cemetery, 9512 National Pike, Big Pool, Maryland, with the Rev. Bobby Robinson officiating.
Family and friends will be received from 7-9pm on Tuesday, September 30, at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown.
