William Eugene "Bill" Kershner, 90, of Greencastle, Pa. passed away, Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at Doey's House, Hagerstown.
Born October 10, 1927 in Hagerstown he was raised by his late grandmother, Rose S. (Shatzer) Stone. In addition to his grandmother he also was preceded in death by his loving wife, Margaret F. "Peg" (DeLauder) Kershner and his beloved dog, Blackie.
Bill retired in 1985 with 24 years of service for the City of Hagerstown where he was a Fire Apparatus Operator. After retirement Bill had worked as an Associate with Rest Haven Funeral Home.
He was a US Army veteran of WW II where he reached the rank of sergeant.
Bill was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, Hagerstown; Engine Company No. 3, Pioneer Hook and Ladder Company, South Hagerstown Fire Company and a charter member of the IAFF Local 1605, Hagerstown Professional Fire Fighters; Morris Frock American Legion Post No. 42, Hagerstown and the B.P.O. Elks No. 378, Hagerstown.
Bill is survived by a sister in law, Mary Jane Shank; nieces, Nancy Brugh (Joe) and Kim DeLany (Patrick); a nephew, Mike Duffield (Sue); and his dog Blazer.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown with Rev. Rodney Rhodes officiating.
Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown where military honors will be accorded by the Maryland National Guard Honor Guard. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday two hours prior to the service.
