William "Bill, Buddy" Harry Shatzer, 77, of Hagerstown, went to be with the Lord, Friday, May 17, 2013 at his home.
Born July 11, 1935 in Washington County, Maryland he was the son of the late, Floyd Jacob and Jessie Irene Shatzer Turner.
In his teens Bill worked on the farm behind Rest Haven Cemetery and it was his fondest dream that he would someday own a working farm. He worked for 25 years at Manbeck's Bread Company where he was a dough mixer. He worked for two years at the Fairchild Republic Company, where he was hired as certified welder but without much welding to be done he worked on the 757 production line. He also worked for Larstan Industries for 25 years as a splitter operator.
Bill attended Hagerstown High School. He was of the Methodist faith and formerly attended John Wesley United Methodist Church on N. Potomac St.
Bill served in the US Army in the 15th Engineering Corp stationed in Nuremberg, Germany.
The greatest love of Bill was gardening and he was happiest when he was outside planting and trimming. He was happy to help his family with their gardening when asked. He also enjoyed family vacations at Topsail Island.
He is survived by his son, Maurice Leon Shatzer, at home,; two sisters, Jean Moore of Williamsport and Joyce Stanley and husband Frank of Hagerstown; two nieces, Frances Brown and husband Sam of Greencastle and Susan Jean Wolff of Williamsport.
In addition to his parents he also was preceded in death by a brother, Franklin Eugene Shatzer.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown.
Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday one hour prior to services.
