William Lionel Gelwicks
William Lionel Gelwicks, 87, of Hagerstown, passed away on Sunday, June 30, at his home.
Born August 5, 1925, he was the son of the late Charles F. and Nettie (Smith) Gelwicks.
William attended Hagerstown High School. He liked to bowl and play softball.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during W.W.II.
He had worked at L'Aiglon Dress Factory as the head machinist. He also worked for London Fog and Danzer's Metal Works.
William is also survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Geraldine D. (Worthington) Gelwicks; a daughter, Donna Resh, of Waynesboro, PA; three sons, William E. Gelwicks of Phoenix, AZ; Gary L. Gelwicks of Hagerstown, Terry L. Gelwicks; two brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; several nieces and nephews; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a daughter; Georgia A. Boyd; infant daughter, Cynthia J. Gelwicks; a son, John W. Gelwicks; five sisters, Fearol Kiser, Grace May, Julia Boutchyard, Lola Sheppard, Jean B. Gelwicks; three brothers, Leon Gelwicks, Carroll Gelwicks and Jack Gelwicks. He is the last remaining member of his family.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00pm on Wednesday, July 3, 2012 at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Mark C. Mooney officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Friends will be received on Tuesday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Judes Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl., Memphis, TN 38105 or Humane Society of Washington County, 13011 Maugansville Rd., Hagerstown, MD 21740.
